Amble - to go easily or unhurriedly; walk in a leisurely manner
Bramble Amble - see oxymoron
THE BRAMBLE AMBLE 8 to 16 August 2006 Southern England
"You (the Bramblers) did more in 2 days than many groups do in a week!" -- exhausted driver #1 when dropping us off in Portsmouth around noon. British law prohibits tour companies from working their drivers anywhere near as hard as we vacation. We met up with driver #2 some 6 hours later for a ride back to London.
The Bramble Amble was a combination vacation / research trip to England. My wife, son and I were joined by Bramblers Scott Crawford, Steven Roe, Joshua Wever and Mandy Lawson. A partial list of our itinerary is below:
Day 1 Tower of London Royal College of Physicians British Museum
Day 2 Oxford Warwick Castle Stratford Anne Hathaway's Cottage Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Hall's Croft 'The Tempest' - starring Patrick Stewart as Prospero
Day 3 Stonehenge - Special Access Tour at Dawn Avebury / West Kennett Long Barrow / Silbury Tor Portsmouth / The Mary Rose Musuem
Day 4 Legoland Windsor British Library
Day 5 Victoria & Albert Wallace Collection Golden Hinde Shakespeare's Globe Exhibit 'Coriolanus' at The Globe (traditional costuming)

Jamestown Settlement Volunteer Training Academy - February 18 & 19
Scott Crawford, Steven Roe, Kirk Sullens, Mona Pieron and I travelled to Virginia to participate in the Jamestown Settlement Volunteer Training Academy. This two day seminar introduces reenactors to the philosophy and mechanics of historical interpretation at Jamestown Settlement in preparation for the 400th anniversary activities in 2007. We enjoyed the training and hospitality of the Jamestown Settlement staff, including the opportunity to sleep in one of the buildings in the Settlement. With a low in the teens and a high the following day that didn't reach the freezing point, we gained a new appreciation for the hardships of the original colonists.
